Community-wide contest secures a name for STRHS new surgical robot
September 13, 2024
STRHS Pulaski is pleased to announce that its new surgical robot will now be named, Sir Jerry. A community-wide contest began to name the robot in late August and ended August 27th with nearly 200 entries.
“We can’t wait to see how this new technology impacts our orthopedic patient experience and our hospital,” said Jason Fugleberg, CEO STRHS Pulaski. “Most importantly, we hope this fun contest allowed the public to get to know our robotics offerings and further explore their surgical options at STRHS Pulaski.”
Sir Jerry was chosen as the name of the hospital’s new surgical robot due to is playful nod to the word “surgery.” Community member, Elizabeth Parks Landry took home the grand prize of her own robot, and iRobot Roomba vacuum and shared that she, “just like STRHS Pulaski couldn’t wait to put her robot to work.”
Hospital Marketing Coordinator Lauren Curry was thrilled with the participation in the contest, stating, " The hospital had several great name options submitted, like Kneemo, Stitch, Bones, Giles, and Socket. It was incredibly hard to make a choice. However, the chosen name was a name we all returned to several times due to its clever approach.”
STRHS Pulaski installed the new surgical robot in August and will perform its first orthopedic-assisted surgery in the last week of September. Located tableside in the operating room, the robot allows a surgeon's hand movements to be scaled, filtered, and translated into precise movements of micro-instruments at the surgical site. The robot is 100% controlled by the surgeon, and it can offer faster recovery times and fewer complications for patients undergoing surgery.
